Abdullah al-Derazi and Youssef al-Manasif were arrested, tortured and forced to confess to crimes committed when they were children, including supposedly attending protests.
And because of the “confessions” extracted from torture, both these boys are facing execution in Saudi Arabia.
But, right now, their cases are being reviewed by the Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court. The Supreme Court may even have already ruled on their cases, without letting them know their verdict. If their death sentences have been upheld, they will be at risk of imminent execution and they, alongside their families, wouldn’t be given any notice before the execution.
The British Government is not speaking up for Abdullah and Youssef. It's letting trade trump human rights and these boys' lives. So, it's up to this community to step up.
Under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s rule, Saudi Arabian authorities have claimed time and time again that it will end the death penalty for child defendants, but that is a lie. Mustafa al-Darwish was a child defendant executed only 2 years ago, and at least 15 child defendants have been executed since 2010.
We are scared Abdullah and Youssef could be next: we don’t want there to be another two families finding out on social media that their boys were executed, another two families fighting for their bodies to be given back, and another two families mourning forever.
