Steven Gerrard & Jordan Henderson: Speak out for child defendants facing execution in Saudi Arabia

Dear Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson,

Will you speak out to stop the execution of child defendants in Saudi Arabia?

Your moves to the Saudi Arabian football club Al-Ettifaq are part of a £6 billion sportswashing spending spree by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) which is chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. He is trying to launder his reputation by buying Newcastle United, hosting sporting events and attracting some of the world’s best footballers to Saudi Arabia.

Under Mohammed bin Salman’s rule, the rate of executions has almost doubled, protestors are killed in mass executions, and at least 11 child defendants have been executed. We fear Reprieve clients, child defendants, Abdullah al-Derazi, Youssef al-Manasif and Abdullah al-Howaiti could be next. They are awaiting Supreme Court verdicts on their cases and could be executed without warning at any time if their death sentences are upheld.

Mohammed bin Salman wants the world to associate Saudi Arabia with football, glamour, and elite sport. We want the world to know the names of, and fight for, Abdullah, Youssef and Abdullah.

Will you speak up for Abdullah, Youssef and Abdullah to ensure they do not face execution and are freed?
