Many families detained in the region have been vilified by the press for travelling to Syria. This ignores the systematic trafficking and abuse most have suffered. None have been charged with a crime, they don’t have meaningful access to a lawyer and their detention is unlawful.

Yet the UK Government has chosen to stand by and do nothing.
