Dear Rt Hon Liz Truss MP

I am writing to you today about a British family who need your help. There is a disabled mother detained with her young son in a detention camp in North-East Syria.

The mother is partially paralysed which makes it difficult for her to walk and perform daily tasks. She has recently started having seizures and local doctors cannot provide her with the treatment she desperately needs. Her young son is afraid to leave her side in case something happens to her. If the British government doesn't bring them home, the mother could die, and a young British boy could be orphaned and abandoned in the Syrian desert.

I understand you are currently considering whether or not to bring the young boy and his seriously disabled mother home. I am writing to ask that you agree to bring the family home, so that the mother can receive life-saving treatment and her son doesn't have to experience the trauma of watching her suffer or even die.

The British government has brought back other young children from Syria, so why not this one? His mother can't be a threat to national security - she can't walk, bathe or dress unaided and has cognitive impairments from her injuries.

Can you please confirm that you will take the necessary steps to ensure that a British mother can receive the medical treatment she needs, and her son’s wellbeing and safety can be assured?
